Apart from the routine activities, Council is engaged in the development of the Tribal population of Seethathode in Ranni. The tribal farmers have been facilitated to grow banana, vegetables, cool season vegetables by providing them assistance for inputs, labour, trainings, procurement of produce, insurance and protection of crops against natural calamity and wild animal attacks.
District Highlights
1. Thiruvananthapuram :
- A program of Cut Vegetables has been launched in the district in which popular vegetables are procured and packed after thoroughly washing, cleaning and cutting. The whole procedure is highly mechanised, untouched by human hands and the packets of vegetables are a hot favourite among the city dwellers as they are safe to eat.
- Peri Urban Scheme: This scheme is supported by State Horticulture Mission and aims at promoting the farmers’ overall development. Assistance is provided in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
2. Kollam:
This district is very suitable for red banana cultivation and the farmers are well adapted for the same with the assistance from the Council.3. Pathanamthitta:

4. Alappuzha:
- Hi Tech Seedling Plug Nursery: This prestigious project of the Council capable of producing 2 crore seedlings simultaneously will be launched soon in which high quality hybrid vegetable seedlings shall be produced for supply. Production of the seedling will be carried out mechanically and they would be ready for supply within three weeks of sowing.
- Soil Testing Lab: A full fledged soil testing lab shall be installed at Thuravoor in Alppuzha for testing different parameters of the soil.
5. Kottayam:
Soil test based nutrient application is carried out in the district in farmers fields so that only the required nutrients in required amounts are supplied thus saving the cost of fertilizers.6. Idukki:
- The Idukki Package was implemented successfully in the district and Councils’ farmers were greatly benefitted by the same.
- Cultivation of cool season vegetables in Vattavada and Kanthallur has been expanded to more areas.
- Creation of water resources for irrigation purpose has been beneficial in the wake of drought faced by the district in past few years.
- Cool chambers erected in the district are being utilised to assist the farmers to keep the excess produce at low temperature for future marketing.
7. Ernakulam:
- Periurban scheme to assist the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
- Cut Vegetable Scheme: Make available to the city dwellers the ease and safety of the popular vegetables procured and packed after thoroughly washing, cleaning and cutting.
- Krishi Business Kendra: Retail Centre for supply of quality Fruit and Vegetable seedlings and planting materials, and organic inputs to the urban population.
8. Thrissur:
- Kole area development: This scheme is carried out in the kole areas of the district by cultivating vegetables when the water recedes and situations are favourable for cropping.
- Cool chamber for storing excess produce and market the same at a later date.
- Banana Pack house: Banana can be graded, stored or subjected to smoking and ripening in a pack house. This shall help the farmers to stock their produce at the time of glut and ripen the same to obtain higher price later/ on transportation.

9. Palakkad:
- Tribal development scheme in Attapady is being carried out for the upliftment of the farmers undertaking banana and vegetable cultivation. All the supports like input, credit, insurance, trainings, marketing etc are being extended to the member farmers.
- Peri urban scheme to assist the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
- Banana pack house: Two banana pack houses are being proposed at Palakkad. Banana shall be graded, stored or subjected to smoking and ripening in a pack house. This shall help the farmers to stock their produce at the time of glut and ripen the same to obtain higher price later or on transportation.
- Soil test based supplies of nutrients are being carried out in the district which helps in making available the nutrients which the soils are deficient in, thus saving on the cost of fertilizers.
- Fetigation in the crops is the application of water soluble fertilizers through irrigation water mainly drip lines which help in curtailing the amount of water needed for irrigation and also helps the supply of the nutrients at the site needed by the plants.
10. Malappuram:
- Establishment of a soil testing lab is proposed which shall help in obtaining the results of the soil samples.
- Peri urban scheme: This scheme is proposed in the district to cater to the needs of the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
11. Kozhikkode:
- Seedling production unit: A well established seedling production network is available in the district which catres to the needs of the vegetable seedlings of the district.
- Periurban scheme: Periurban scheme to assist the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
12. Wayanad:
- Wayanad Package: NAIP Scheme implemented in Wayanad district to enhance the marketing supports and infrastructure through Wayanad Package.
- Banana Pack House: One banana pack house is being proposed in the district. Banana shall be graded, stored or subjected to smoking and ripening in a pack house. This shall help the farmers to stock their produce at the time of glut and ripen the same to obtain higher price later or on transportation.
- Proposed Peri urban scheme This scheme is proposed in the district to cater to the needs of the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
13. Kannur:
- Peri urban scheme: The district is successfully implementing the scheme and is assisting the farmers in areas of human resource development, purchase of inputs and vehicle for procurement of produce from farmers’ fields, study tours, high quality seedling distribution etc.
