Technologies developed through PTD in VFPCK
- To minimize flower drop and increase the yield of cow pea:
Spraying Planofix (NAA) @ 3ml in 10 litre of water at 30 and 60 days after sowing is found to minimize flower drop and increase the yield of cow pea. 2.5 litre hormone solutions are required for one cent.
- To boost bunch weight of banana:
Spraying of Potassium Sulphate 3% (30gms/litre) on the bunches on second and fourth week after complete bunch emergence to boost bunch weight of banana
- To control pseudostem borer in banana:
Leaf axil filling of Carbaryl 4gms/litre is effective to control pseudostem borer in banana
- To control of pod borer in cowpea:
Weekly spraying of Delphin (Bacillus thuringiensis) @ 2.5 ml per litre 3-4 times is effective to control of pod borer in cowpea
- To increase the growth and yield of amaranthus:
Fish amino acid 0.1% as foliar spray and 0.2% as soil drench at 5 days interval is found to increase the growth and yield of amaranthus
Fish amino acid is prepared as under: Mix 2.0 kg cheap fish or fish waste with equal quantity of raw sugar (Panamchakkara). Keep it in a closed container in a dark place. After 10 days you will find a sweet smelling solution and it is the fish amino acid. Strain it and spray after dilution.
- To control American Serpentine Leaf Miner spray Neem Oil Garlic Emulsion:
Preparation of Neem oil garlic emulsion : Dissolve 60gm bar soap in half litre water. Slowly add the soap solution to 1 litre Neem oil. Mix thoroughly. Dilute with 15 litres of water for spraying in cowpea and dilute with 60 litre of water for spraying in cucurbitaceous vegetables. Add 20gm pasted garlic for each litre of water used for dilution
- Spray Neem oil garlic emulsion as very fine spray using a good quality sprayer
- Shake the sprayers occasionally while spraying to ensure mixing of oil with soap
- Avoid Neem oil spraying after flowering
- Managing Sigatoka in banana :
- Give prophylactic spray of fungicides during rainy season
- Spray systemic and contact fungicide alternately
- Remove and destroy infected leaves before spraying
- Ensure that fungicide spray is done on the lower side of the leaves
- Use stickers while spraying during rainy season
